Grown up

The kids are on Spring Break and so are home all week. Carmi took the week off from work to stay with them.

This morning, one of our friends picked Karys up and took her to a local park to play with our friend’s son.

I “borrowed” these pics from Facebook.

And as I sat and looked at them earlier, I couldn’t help but sigh.

Our baby girl looks more grown up every day.

Waah.

Fiery wings

Some friends of ours had a birthday party for their son this evening. At a Lego store.

Now that was unique. And fun.

When we first walked in, the store was literally c-r-a-w-l-i-n-g with people.

But we were lead through glass doors into a private room.

In the center of the room was a large square table that could probably seat 12 people.

A store employee poured out enough legos to practically cover the entire tabletop with plastic.

And the kids were turned loose to build whatever they wanted.

Well, actually the theme was “space” so their creations needed to be related to space in some way.

At first, only the kids were building. But before the party was over, the adults had regressed and were also playing with the blocks.

After the Lego store kicked us out, we all went to dinner together.

Zane was feeling brave and wanted to try wings with barbeque sauce.

It wasn’t until after we had placed Zane’s order and the waiter had walked off that one of our friends pointed out a small word in the barbeque sauce description that we… umm… missed initially.

The word was “fiery”.

Zane would not be intimidated. He was going to eat them anyway.

And eat them he did.

I couldn’t help but laugh when, from the opposite end of the table, I saw snot glistening under his nose. I’m pretty sure I saw some sweat too.

Those wings lit the boy up. But he finished ‘em off.

White belt 4th stripe

Eliana received the 4th and final stripe on her white belt tonight in Taekwondo.

Unfortunately she will have to wait until June 4th to test for her yellow belt.

Your breath don’t stink

I ran in a local 5K race this morning.

It was pretty nice, weatherwise, when the race started. But by the end, the sky was overcast and the wind was beginning to blow so it was a might cool. And I didn’t have a jacket.

After the awards ceremony, I was pretty chilled so I stopped by McDonalds on the way home for a coffee.

As soon as I walked into the house, Karys made a h-u-u-u-u-u-g-e deal about me being sweaty and being, to use her exact words, “a stinky boy”.

“But”, she said, “you’re breath don’t stink ‘cause I like coffee!”

5K personal best

I ran my 2nd 5K (3.1 mile) race this morning.

This was a neat race because it was to raise money for 3 local non-profit organizations.

A total of 515 runners and 109 walkers registered for the event. Between registration fees and sponsorships, the race raised $22,500… a record amount.

Out of 515 runners, I finished #128 with a personal-best time of 28:38 which j-u-u-u-u-u-s-t put me in the top 25%.

5K on Saturday

I was supposed to run a marathon back in February.

You haven’t heard me talk about it because… well… I didn’t run.

Even though I began training 6 months earlier (in August), my poor ol’ knees just wouldn’t let me do it.

I tried to do too much too fast.

So my running buddy and I, we have started over.

We registered today for a 5K race on Saturday morning.

White belt 3rd stripe

Eliana received the 3rd stripe on her white belt tonight in Taekwondo.

To get the 3rd stripe, she had to memorize and execute the Ki-bon which is a series of 14 forms.

There’s one more white belt stripe and then she can test for her yellow belt.
