Trunk or Treat 2010
For the 3rd year running, our church offered Trunk or Treat tonight as a Halloween alternative.
The weather was perfect so we had an amazing turnout. Last I heard, around 700 people were served a hotdog in the fellowship hall.
Eliana dressed up as a ninja. Again.
“Girl”, I said when we came home, “you’ve been a ninja for 3 years in a row. You need to dress up as something different next year.”
“Awww… but dad… there’s nothing else I want to be!”
And I believe it. She has ninja on the brain.

Zane. My dear son Zane.
Since he’s now in the youth department, I didn’t encourage him to dress up as anything.
But he couldn’t resist throwing on my afro.
That I was going to wear.
But decided not to.
Thank goodness.

Karys wanted to dress up as a bride.
Which shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody because she talks c-o-n-s-t-a-n-t-l-y about getting married and to whom.
Unfortunately there were no bride costumes to be found in town.
So she opted for Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.

Our theme for Trunk or Treat was 70s Disco.
Carmi created a bead curtain which we strung across the back of the van. Inside the van we placed a rotating, multi-colored disco ball light.
To top it off, I downloaded 6 classic disco hits from iTunes which played continuously for the entire 2-1/2 hours.
Which means we listened to each song about 6 times.
And I’m officially sick of those songs.
Carmi dressed up in a slick (literally) Disco Diva outfit that was, um, a little too revealing for comfort up top. So that’s why she accessorized with a jacket.
Sometime during the night, an African-American lady told Carmi that her outfit was “hot”.
And I can’t disagree.
I dressed up as John Travolta from Saturday Night Fever.
Sort of.
A lady from church informed me that I should be wearing a black shirt with my white, polyester suit.
Which I can’t deny since that is what Tony Manero wore in the movie.
But burgundy is my color. So there.
A lot of visitors complemented our very simply-decorated theme so it was a fun night.

A dream realized
What were you doing 8 years ago today?
Carmi and I were in China.
And our dream of starting a family was realized when 3 strangers handed us a beautiful 8-month old baby girl.
She had the chubbiest little cheeks.
And the cutest dimples along the knuckles of her hands.
And a smile that would light up the room.
Many a night I watched Eliana fall asleep with her middle finger in her mouth and her index finger tap-tap-tapping her nose.
Here we are… 8 years later. Her cheeks are not as chubby but she still has dimples and an infectious smile.
Before retiring to bed each night, I check on the children as they sleep. Some nights, Eliana has a hand near her mouth as though she started to comfort herself but then remembered that she is safely home.
We’re glad you’re in OUR home, Little Empress. And we love you more than you’ll ever know.

Jackie Chan Adventures
Like rare jewels are the moments when Karys is not moving around. Typically she can NOT be still.
But I found the secret.
And it’s Netflix.
I signed us up for a 30-day free trial on the 18th so we could sample the Netflix streaming service.
I’ve watched a couple of movies that I missed in the theater this year.
But you know what has captured the kiddo’s attention?
It’s a cartoon series that premiered way back in 2000 called Jackie Chan Adventures.
This cartoon series ran 5 years for a total of 95 episodes. And our three are going to watch ‘em all.
Every. Single. One.
But Jackie Chan doesn’t just keep them still. He also keeps them laughing.
And that makes Jackie Chan double the winner in my book.

Pray longer
This was the start to breakfast at our house this morning.
After I said the blessing, Eliana raised her head and said with a smile, “Pray longer…”

She lost her very first tooth
We have one more excited little girl in our house tonight.
Why?
She lost her very first tooth.
All we’ve heard is, “I’m gonna get the tooth fairy!!”
Over. And over. And over.
She was going to put the tooth under her pillow tonight but decided to wait so she could take the tooth to school tomorrow.
