Ahhh… Spring…
Ahhh…

Spring…

Ahhh…

Christmas?

Yep. The Christmas lights are still up in our crape myrtles.
The way I figure it… I’d rather take them down when it’s 70 outside than when it’s 30.
Or I could just leave them there.
After all, the Christmas season is only 8 months away.

Weekend bullet train 3.28.10
1. Eliana received an invitation to a classmate’s birthday party which was yesterday (Saturday) afternoon at the bowling alley. Carmi took her.
2. When did it become the norm for the one having a birthday party to give gifts to those coming to the birthday party???
3. There was a drop-in reception yesterday evening for our church’s prospective interim pastor.
4. We were one of the last few in attendance so we pigged out on the finger foods which was our dinner.
5. The prospective interim pastor has been going on mission trips to China since 1998.
6. He preached at both services this morning. The church voted to extend the call to him. Yippee!
7. I sing tenor in the church choir. One of the songs we sang had such a high tenor part that my throat was still sore after lunch.
8. Carmi and the 3 children went to the Chinese church service this afternoon.
9. I didn’t get to go because my Gospel trio had a concert this evening.
10. I’m enjoying a wonderful bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream which is ideal for soothing tired vocal chords.

Kitty fairy
Either we caught the elusive kitty fairy on camera or Eliana has been messing in the dress-up box again.

Mischief
That’s some mischief just waitin’ to happen.

A great belated birthday present
Looky what I got!
“But Doug… you’ve been married for 23 years. That’s nothing new.”
Well… no it’s NOT new but it’s LIKE new.
Four days after Memorial Day in 2008, I contracted a strep infection in my left elbow and was in the hospital for 2 weeks.
When I was first admitted into the hospital, a nurse cut the wedding ring off my finger. My hand was also swelling and remained swollen for a couple of months after coming home.
Physical therapy helped me to regain much of the use of my left hand but every single joint is still stiff to this day.
I’ve been a little nervous about putting the ring back on. But after almost 2 years, I was ready.
Today I received my shiny, like-new, one-size-bigger wedding ring.
What a great belated birthday present.

A toe dip before departure
We had some time on the beach before Carmi finished up with her seminars today and we needed to head home.
I rolled up the kids pants legs and told them not to get their pants wet.
I might as well have told the wall.
Actually Zane did good but the girls… especially Eliana… got soaked.

We walked to the pier which was a fair distance from the resort.
When we got there, they were going to charge us just to walk out on the pier. I wanted to tell them, in the nicest Christian way possible, to stick it.
So we drowned our sorrows in Coke.
The Cokes actually cost more than the walking tax but it was the principle.

The kids were very happy when mommy finally joined us on the beach.
Eliana tried to dry out before getting in the car for the trip home.

USS North Carolina
Carmi left her seminars at 2:30 this afternoon and we all headed for the USS North Carolina.

We arrived only 1 hour before the ship was to close so we had to rush through.
When it was time to go, the kiddos were pretty well done for the day.

Morning surf

Three girls?
The kids and I went for breakfast down in the hotel restaurant.
We were already eating when an older gentleman - I won’t hazard a guess as to age but he was definitely well retired - came in and sat down at the table next to us.
“You have quite the offspring there.”, he said.
“Thanks.”, I responded with a nod and a smile.
“You’ve got your hands full with 3 girls.”
It took me a second to realize what he said.
I shot a glance over to Zane and it was a struggle to keep from laughing. Although I did snicker.
Zane was staring at the guy like he was crazy.
“We actually have 2 girls and 1 son.”
“Oh, yeah. I see now.”
I guess it’s time to get Zane a haircut.

Lookie where we are
Lookie where we are!
Well, I pulled this photo from “google images” but we ARE at the beach.
Carmi had to come for a work-related seminar on Friday and Saturday so the rest of us reluctantly *cough* tagged along. The kids and I will try to make the best of surf, sand, sun and 70-degree temps while Carmi has fun in class.
The real photos will come tomorrow.

They still have it
I heard Eliana laughing her head off a little bit ago so I had to check out what was so funny.
Know what it was?
She was watching an episode from my 3-season DVD set of Gillgan’s Island!
She also had a raucous time watching Tom & Jerry over the weekend.
Ahhh, those old shows… they still have it.

Young waiter got it
Today was my birthday.
I wasn’t going to toot my own horn by making the announcement this morning. So… umm… don’t bother looking at previous years’ entries on March 14th, k?
Tonight we went out for dinner with the usual after-church dinner group.
I finished my meal and was s-t-u-f-f-e-d. And just as I leaned back in the chair to give my *cough* forty *cough* seven *cough* year *cough* old *cough* belly some breathing room, our young waiter placed a celebratory caramel confection on the table right in front of me.
I managed a couple of nibbles but there was no way I could eat the dessert delight right then. And there was certainly no way I was going to leave it there for them to throw away.
So I asked for a take-out box.
Young waiter brought out the box below.
I think young waiter was bucking for a bigger tip.
Young waiter got it.
