Wore out

I’d say that a day of swimming has worn them out.

Review: Fields of the Fatherless

Fields of the Fatherless
by Tom Davis

Fields of the Fatherless

by Tom Davis is one of those books that will change your life if you let it. Your eyes will be opened to the plight of orphans, widows, the poor and the stranger and to what God says to Christians about providing for them. God will place these on your heart in such a way that you will find it hard to forget. Not only does Mr. Davis explain in detail about these “fatherless”, he also shows how important the least of these are to the heart of God. You will realize that God blesses those who bless them. Mr. Davis addresses fear that robs us of the joy to be found in showing compassion to the fatherless. It is this fear that will prevent us from growing, changing and experiencing the joy and blessings God has for us. You will be encouraged to do something, not just hope that “someone else” will do it.

If you allow this book to touch you, Mr. Davis has also provided a “Guide To Walking in the Fields of the Fatherless”. The Guide gives specific ways to become involved in helping the fatherless. I encourage every Christian to read this life-changing book. Do not miss the blessings you will receive by caring for those who cannot care for themselves. I know I have been personally encouraged to start a ministry to orphans in my church. I hope that others will be encouraged in the same way.

I heard it

Zane has this obsession about watching me and Carmi smooch.

Which is funny. And more than slightly annoying.

If a couple kisses on tv, he usually smiles really big and turns his head away.

Let me and Carmi lock lips and he’s standing right there at us. Staring. And laughing.

This morning I was getting ready to leave and kissed Carmi goodbye but Zane was around the corner.

I said, “Uh-oh. You missed it, Zane.”

“Wha?”

“Mommy and I kissed.”

“Yeah, I know.”, he said. “I heard it.”

Can you tell that Karys is growing?

No, these pants are not capris. Can you tell that Karys is growing?

Actually all 3 of the kiddos have grown considerably in the 4 months that Zane has been home.

We measured them this weekend: Zane has grown 7/8”, Eliana has grown 1” and Karys has grown 1-1/8”.

Whew. Doesn’t bode well for the clothing budget when the new school year starts.

A nap a day…

This is all I want to do most Sunday afternoons. Especially after getting up early for a Sunday morning concert.

Hmm…what’s Sagwa’s excuse??

Introducing Ting

Carmi and I have been on mission trips over the last 12 years to several different Caribbean islands.

A drink that is very popular on the islands and one that we came to enjoy is called Ting. Ting is a lightly carbonated citrus drink made from Jamaican grapefruit.

Well, imagine our surprise today when we discovered Ting at an Asian market in Charlotte.

A case of the stuff came home with us and we introduced it to our children at dinner. Actually, Eliana experienced it firsthand in Antigua about 4 years ago but it was new to Karys and Zane.

Neither was crazy about it - or so they said - but they still emptied their bottle.

Oops, we did it again

Carmi took our newest addition - the little siamesesque kitten - to the vet today for the first time.

We were under the assumption that this was a male kitten, thus the name Mushu.

Well, we’ll be changing the name because he, it turns out, is a she. Seems like we’ve made this mistake before.

Her new name is Sagwa.

A sweet ride

Back in July of 2003, my quartet traveled down to Georgia for a weekend of concerts. Eliana was almost 1-1/2 years old at the time.

On that Sunday morning, we sang at a church whose Pastor owned a vintage limousine which he rented out and drove for weddings, proms, etc.

We couldn’t resist some photo ops with such a sweet ride. And the Pastor was kind enough to give us a ride in it to The Varsity for lunch following our concert.

Fletcher Community Park

Our adoption agency had planned a big picnic today for Taylor Ranch in Fletcher, NC. However, due to an insufficient number of registrations, they had to cancel.

Since we had already paid for a room reservation at Ridgecrest, we put the word out to see if any other families might still be interested in coming to the mountains for our own little impromptu picnic.

We met up with a few families for dinner last night and then spent the day today at Fletcher Community Park. The high was in the upper 70s and there were only a few clouds dotting the blue sky.  Couldn’t have ordered a more beautiful mountain afternoon.

Most of our adoptive friends had not yet met Zane so it was nice to see them take such an interest in him.

There was a huge wading creek. All the kids were drawn to the water and most of them, ours included, got pretty wet.

Gun fight

Eliana and Zane had a water pistol fight.

Karys didn’t have a pistol but she was not exempt from being squirted.

Zane was intense.

Eliana was soaked.

Find My Family

I was surfing the ABC website (during commercial breaks watching LOST) and ran across this casting call for a new reality TV show called Find My Family.

FROM THE CREATORS OF EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION AND SECRET MILLIONAIRE.

Were you adopted? Did you make the difficult decision to give a child up for adoption? Have you been searching for a parent, child, or sibling and exhausted your resources? If so, award-winning producers want to hear about your experiences for the new ABC show, Find My Family.

The show will explore the profound issues involved when families separate and the lengths some go to reunite, find answers, and discover lost family. Are you searching for a loved one? Do you know someone who is? If you or someone you know is seeking answers, please consider sharing your story with millions who might benefit. We can make a difference.

I don’t know about this.

I think it would be very easy for Find My Family to turn into an exploitive Jerry Springer-type show. The one saving grace is that it’s from the creators of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition which does handle situations in a sensitive manner.

What do you think?
