Halloween 2007
Karys wore the ladybug costume that Eliana wore when she was the same age. Eliana was the pink Power Ranger.
That one was HER choice.

Bedtime playtime

Only in the South

She’s a grumpus
Eliana and I were sitting outside of school this morning when a sour-looking lady passed in front of the van.
“She’s a grumpus”, I commented.
“Who?”
I pointed at the lady entering the building.
“She’s a teacher”, Eliana said.
“And she’s a grumpus.”
“No she’s not. Her face is just like that.”

Last soccer game
Today was Eliana’s last soccer game of the year. It was supposed to be this past Saturday but was rained out.
Well, it really wasn’t even a game. The other team didn’t show so Eliana and her teammates played the coaches and a couple of older boys.
You know what? Eliana played the hardest she’s played all year and scored 3 goals!
I think she just likes playing against bigger kids. Even one of the coaches made a similar remark.
Cupcakes and juice helped bring a fitting conclusion to the season.

October in the park
Carmi went to Charlotte with a friend to attend an all-day “Women of Faith” conference at Bobcat Arena.
The girls and I took advantage of a gorgeous day and visited a local park.

A rare, quiet moment

100 things about Karys (or rather 11-20)
We haven’t had Karys long enough to find out 100 things about her so we’ll share tidbits as we go along. The first 10 are here. Now for numbers 11 through 20:
11. She likes jewelry.
12. She stomps her feet when she’s mad.
13. She doesn’t want any stuffed animals on her bed when she sleeps.
14. She likes baths.
15. She would wear her squeaky shoes 24-7.
16. She still drops to the floor and crawls occasionally.
17. She likes to make funny faces.
18. She’s becoming a ham for the camera.
19. She is NOT a morning person.
20. Her concentration is intense while trying to figure something out.

A very cute barista
Eliana prays most nights before going to bed.
From the time that we started paperwork for Karys 2 years ago, Eliana always started her prayers by asking God to watch over her baby sister in China.
Now that Karys is home, we’re trying to get Eliana to switch from praying for her “sister” in China to her “brother” in China but habits are a hard thing to break. She still starts with “Watch over my baby sis…”
“BROTHER!”, Carmi and I interject in unison.
“Oh yeah…brother in China…”
Tonight when she finished her prayer, she sat on the edge of the bed and asked in a serious tone, “Mom, are you really gonna get me a brother?”
“We want to, sweetheart.”
“Soon?”
“Well, we can’t do it anytime soon because it takes a lot of money and we don’t have enough.”
“I can get some money”, Eliana offered.
She would make a very cute barista at Starbucks if it weren’t for those darn child-labor laws.

Monkey see, monkey do
Karys always wants to copy big sister. Or is it the other way around?

Soccer ramblings
David vs Goliath

Am I supposed to hike this thing?

Baby got bling
Karys has some serious bling going on. It might be plastic but this is one case of ‘what she doesn’t know won’t hurt her’.
I met Carmi and Karys at mom’s house for lunch today. We’re walking in and Carmi said, “You’re in big trouble, boy!”
What ran through my mind was “What’s new?” but what came out of my mouth was “Why’s that?”
“You know that ladybug necklace that Eliana put on Karys yesterday?”
“Uh-huh.”
“Karys went straight for my armoire this morning and found that necklace and was not satisfied until I put it on her.”
So the girl likes her some jewelry. Mom looks entirely too happy.

I fell off the wagon
So we all piled into the car this evening to go visit our buds at the Chinese restaurant that we haven’t seen in 3 months (they took 3 months off to visit family in Malaysia).
As soon as I get into the car, Eliana says, “Dad, let me see your fingernails.”
Crap.
I unenthusiastically raised my right hand and shoved it over the headrest.
“They don’t look too good”, she gloated.
I didn’t have the guts to tell her that I fell off the wagon this week.

Wrasslin’ match
Karys briefly had the upper-hand in this wrasslin’ match!
