We were supposed to get together with a group of friends from church on New Years Eve for a marathon evening of food and Wii.

Unfortunately I fell ill and the Hendersons didn’t participate.

Fortunately, they had such a great time anyway (I’m not sure how to take that) that we decided to rotate homes and get together on the first Friday of every month.

Tonight was our inaugural First Friday event. The menu was tacos. The game was doubles tennis.

We drew names to create the teams. Carmi and I were the last two names in the pot but she really wasn’t interested in playing. Zane did not intend to play either but graciously substituted for his mom.

Thus Terra Cotta Warriors was born. Or TCW for short. A name that invoked fear in our opponents.

Except maybe for Karys.

She was paired with Chris, our Music Minister. And I believe at Karys’ suggestion they named themselves Heiney Kickers. Or so Chris claimed.

She held her own and played well. HK made it into the semifinal round of our double-elimination tournament but eventually fell victim to the Tigers (Eliana and her good friend, Rachel).

The Tigers took on TCW in the finals.

Rachel danced.

Eliana disputed a call.

Ultimately, TCW would be victorious and proudly wear the banner of Wii Tennis Champions.
