Little white church

We needed to run an errand out of town late this afternoon.

On the way to our destination, we passed this little white church just off the road in a small patch of woods and had to stop on the way back home.

There wasn’t a sign anywhere on the property so we know neither the name nor the denomination.

Notice the chimney on the rear of the roof. I guess that was their only heat.

The church is obviously no longer used as the front door was padlocked.

And vandals have already left their mark.

Can you say ‘outhouse’?

There was an equally small cemetery on the property.

And an interesting resident.

I’d love to know this little church’s story.

Love the pictures.  We frequently take note of little country churches - they are fascinating - what a story they could tell.  The pews, through the broken window, look lovely.  I’ve never understood why some people just cannot leave things that are not theirs alone.

I love the pictures, too.  I always enjoy the small country churches and it looks like you were there at a perfect time of day for pictures.  You really need to do some research on this and find out about the Henderson connection.  Thanks for sharing.
And tell Eliana Happy Birthday!  I can’t believe she’s 10!

Carmi tried to scrounge something up on the internet today about the little church to no avail.

I told her tonight that we might need to make another road trip over there… try to find a neighbor to talk to and see what they know.

Road trip sounds like a great idea. If you don’t learn anything let me know and I’ll see if anyone in the OMGS (Olde Mecklenburg Genealogical Society) can help. I’d love to make a print of the pictures but not sure if I can or not.

Whoopee! I was able to print a picture of the little church. It’s lovely.
