What were you doing?
What were you doing on September 11, 2001 when you heard the news?

I was home with our boys (they were nearly 3 and 1) and my husband was recovering from knee surgery. We didn’t have power as a storm came through (we lived on the west coast of Florida) so we watched the news coverage on a portable tv. It’s still so hard to see the photos.
I was in the media center at my school waiting for a class to come in when another teacher rushed in and asked me to turn the TV on. It was then we saw the 2nd plane come in and strike the 2nd tower. Our school was then put on “lockdown”. My husband, who was a pastor then, came and we all hugged each other and cried. Two days after the first anniversary of 9-11 (which happened to also be Friday the 13th), we were on a flight to China to bring home our daughter. May the victims rest in peace and their families find comfort today and always.
I was at work and my boss’ wife called and I happened to answer the phone. She told us about the first plane and everyone in the company went to the conference room to watch the TV until they shut our building down and made us go home. I watched coverage on tv until I saw a person jumping and I had to turn it off and just leave the house and get around other people.
I was at the airport in Austin, Texas, waiting on a flight back to the Carolinas. I (and several hundred others) saw the second plane hit on live TV while waiting to board our flights. The airport closed minutes later and near-panic ensued.
The next several days are all flash bulb memories for me—trying to get home, traveling across the country on a Greyhound bus, hearing bits and pieces of the news, crazy rumors about terrorists attacking buses, talking to other sad/angry travelers along the way.
I agree with the other comments, it’s still difficult to see these pictures. But it’s right to remember that day and the people who perished.
I was in bed with a wisdom tooth infection brought on my new found pregnancy. H
I was on my way to Hot Springs, AR to spend the day with my mom. It was her birthday. We had a girls’ day out planned. It was surreal to know that we were out celebrating while this horrific thing was being done to our people and our nation. We kept listening on the radio and catching bits on tv. It was like the nation had stopped. In every business we visited, no one was working, they were just watching the events unfold.
Seven years later and still so sad.
I saw it live. I was watching TV for something for Dh...okay, so I saw the 2nd plane hit live. I was watching CNN for the sports scores scrolling on the bottom...talking to Dh.
AWFUL feelings.
I had the day off and was at home when Mama called me at 8:45 to turn the TV on and tell her what was happening. I turned the TV on just before the second plane hit then watched the second plane hit the south tower. It was so sereal watching it on live TV. I watched for the rest of the day and saw the towers fall. Many years ago I had gone and visited my aunt and uncle that live just out side of NY. I got to go up in the World Trade Center that had a resturant on the top floor with glass windows all around. The only reason that I got to go to the resturant was that I had on slacks and not blue jeans that day. My cousin Jamie had on blue jeans and they wouldn’t let him come into the resturant so he went over on the tower that had just an obervation deck on top. I could see him and his friend from the resturant. My aunt and uncle and I got drinks in the resturant they each got a glass of wine and I got a non-alcoholic drink called a Shirley Temple origionally I asked for a coke but my aunt said that I should get something fancy. To this day I remember the price of the the drinks, they cost $35.00. I was ten at the time and couldn’t believe how expensive they were. To this day any time I hear a siren on an ambulance or firetruck I still cringe and say a prayer for those brave people that they will get to there destination safely and come back safely.

We were doing seating arrangements for our wedding 3 weeks later. Michael and I were having breakfast at my apartment and I was chatting on AOL IM when someone told me about the first plane.
Ugh, it makes me sad to even look at these pics
