Slow Down In The Referral Process

We received an email today from Virginia who is our case manager from Christian World Adoption. A portion of her email reads:

Many of you are already aware that the China Center of Adoption Affairs has slowed down their referral process. The wait time for a referral is now about 9-10 months.

The reason that the CCAA gives for the slowdown is that they have received more applications from prospective parents than they have children who are eligible for adoption. Please note that although the children’s welfare centers are full of children who need homes, each child must have a completed file in order to be eligible for international adoption. So it is not that there aren’t children available, it’s that there aren’t children who are 'paper ready' for adoption. It is our hope that the CCAA will return to their previous wait time of 6 months for referral, but for now this is hard to predict.

While this is certainly not encouraging news, there is no sense in getting all bent out of shape about it as so many seem to do. What everyone must understand is that there is absolutely NOTHING we can do to speed this process up. Nada. Zilch.

Now, if you'll excuse me. I feel the urge to sulk.
