Does that make you happy?

Carmi and I always alternate giving Eliana her bath. For some reason, she does NOT like it when it’s daddy’s turn. Maybe it’s because I don’t let her play as long in the water??

Earlier this evening, Eliana asked if it was mommy’s night to give her bath. I said, “Yes it is. Does that make you happy?”

“Well”, she started. “I’m not happy that I have a bath tonight. But I AM happy that mommy is giving me my bath.”

Cartoons and waffles

I called Carmi a few minutes ago to check on the Empress. Eliana hasn’t been given any medicine this morning and her temperature is just slightly over 99. Hopefully whatever brought on the fever yesterday is leaving as quickly as it came.

Carmi said she sat Eliana down at her little table in front of the television to watch cartoons and eat waffles for breakfast. After a good while, Carmi looked in the living room. Eliana was still staring at the tube with mouth hanging open but had barely touched her food if at all.

“Why are you not eating your waffles?”, mommy demanded.

Eliana is usually mesmerized - almost hypnotized - by whatever she’s watching so it’s no surprise that she answered, “When I look at the TV, I get stuck up there!”

Is That Remy’s Grandmother?

Last Thursday was my night to provide music at church for our Celebrate Recovery ministry. Celebrate Recovery typically starts at 6:30 with a light meal and the program starts around 7:00.

Eliana and I were sitting at a table finishing up our meal when this sweet lady in our church walked in toting her absolutely beautiful little great-granddaughter whose name is Remy. Remy is just a tad younger than Eliana and they sometimes pal around together.

The lady, who is in her 70’s, put their ‘stuff’ down at a table next to ours and walked past us on the way to the food line.

As they walked by, Eliana asked, “Is that Remy’s grandmother?”

“No, sweetheart.”, I said. “She is Remy’s GREAT-grandmother.”

Just as straight-faced as could be, Eliana looked up at me and said, “And she’s still alive?”

You’re Gonna Be In Trouble All The Time

We had to make a Target run after supper tonight. As soon as we pulled out of the garage, Eliana started chattering away.

It wasn't long before Carmi said, "I have a feeling you're gonna be in trouble all the time when you start school."

"Why?"

"Because you talk all the time and you're never quiet."

Eliana encouraged us when she replied, "I'll be quiet when I get 5."

Are You Finished Cleaning?

Carmi and I have been pretty busy cleaning the house today just because it's been awhile. Plus there's an outside chance some family might drop by a little later.

Eliana was playing in the living room when I decided to take a little break and see what she was up to.

As soon as I sat down, she asked, "Are you finished cleaning?"

"No, sweetheart...I'm still cleaning."

"Is mommy finished cleaning?"

"No, mommy is still cleaning."

"Mommy is still cleaning?"

"Yeah."

"Then why are you sitting here?"

I Needed Mousse

imageWe had to make a retail run tonight after supper. Actually, Carmi ran into Michaels while the Empress and I headed for Target.

I needed mousse. God forbid that I should run out of mousse and I was down to one more good palm full.

While I was looking over the selections for my brand of choice, Eliana asked, "Are you looking for glue, daddy?"

No, I’m Just Resting

Eliana helped me work in the back yard this evening. When we came inside, she ran to the bathroom with that 'I gotta poop' look on her face.

Now let me tell you...when that child goes for a #2, it usually takes for-EV-er. This trip was no exception.

She had already been sitting on the potty for a while. I was hearing splashes as proof-positive that she was really doing something. However, there had now been a particularly long silent spell.

I impatiently asked, "Sweetheart, are you DONE yet?"

To which she replied, "No. I'm just resting my heinie."
