Slow Down In The Referral Process

posted by Doug on Fri Feb 10, 2006 at 11:45 am | journey to Karys | 0 comments
We received an email today from Virginia who is our case manager from Christian World Adoption. A portion of her email reads:

Many of you are already aware that the China Center of Adoption Affairs has slowed down their referral process. The wait time for a referral is now about 9-10 months.

The reason that the CCAA gives for the slowdown is that they have received more applications from prospective parents than they have children who are eligible for adoption. Please note that although the children’s welfare centers are full of children who need homes, each child must have a completed file in order to be eligible for international adoption. So it is not that there aren’t children available, it’s that there aren’t children who are 'paper ready' for adoption. It is our hope that the CCAA will return to their previous wait time of 6 months for referral, but for now this is hard to predict.

While this is certainly not encouraging news, there is no sense in getting all bent out of shape about it as so many seem to do. What everyone must understand is that there is absolutely NOTHING we can do to speed this process up. Nada. Zilch.

Now, if you'll excuse me. I feel the urge to sulk.

Thank You For Your Patience

We received an official notice from the U S Citizenship & Immigration Services office in Charlotte that they received our I-600A.

Word on the street is that the wait in North Carolina for the elusive I-171H is 3 months!

So the last sentence on our letter says, "Thank you for your patience". Yeah right...

Our Homestudy Visit is History

Our Social Worker, Melissa Robinson, came by for a visit tonight as part of our home study requirement. Melissa and her husband left China with their first daugher, Anna, only a couple of days before we first arrived in Beijing in 2002. In June of this year, they returned home with their second daughter, Lilly.

She was supposed to arrive at 7:30. Somewhere around 7:20, just as we were finishing supper, the phone rang. When I answered, a somewhat harried Melissa said, "Doug, I'm gonna be just a little bit late." [pause] "You know, kids and all..."

Hey, you're singin' to the choir.

She did arrive around 8:10ish and we had a good meeting that lasted until 9:30. Most of the typical topics of discussion were not covered because we've been through the process before. One of the main issues we did toss around was how Eliana might react to another little one in the house. She SAYS that she wants a baby sister - she talks about her all the time - but what will happen when Mommy or Daddy are holding another child and this child isn't going away? She has already made it abundantly clear to both of us that only I can hold her baby sister. Should be interesting...

Eliana won some brownie points because she colored a beautiful picture and presented it to Melissa before she left. Way to suck up, baby girl!

I Got The Results Of My Bloodwork Today

I got the results of my bloodwork today after my physical last Friday. Didn't actually have a chance to talk with the doctor but here's what the lab work told me:

Total Cholesterol 206, good range is 100-199...thumbs down

Triglycerides 242, good range is 0-149...thumbs down

HDL (good) Cholesterol 47, good range is 40-59...yeah for me!

LDL (bad) Cholesterol 111, good range is 0-99...thumbs down

According to WebMD:

You may be able to lower your triglycerides by first making lifestyle changes. It is often easier to lower triglycerides with lifestyle modifications than it is to lower LDL cholesterol with such changes. Lifestyle modifications to lower triglycerides include:

- Losing weight to decrease body fat.
- Eating fewer calories.
- Eating a healthy, balanced diet that limits high-sugar foods.
- Reducing fats in your diet, especially saturated fats.
- Reducing or eliminating alcohol.
- Exercising.

I think I'm gonna be sick...

My Adoption Physical

I had my adoption physical this morning.

That's amazing because Carmi only called our doctor on Wednesday. There was a cancellation so they were able to work me right in.
Thank goodness THAT is over with...for reasons that I shall not go into! grrr
